Seminar-Workshop on Hydrocarbon Technology held at
Don Bosco
March 1-2, 2001 -
Representatives from the Philippine Ozone Desk, the Technical Education
and Skills Development Authority, the Philippine Long Distance Telephone
Company, the Association of National Panasonic Authorized Service
Centers, and Matsushita Electric Philippines Corporation (biggest
manufacturer of refrigeration and air conditioning equipment in
the region) attended a seminar-workshop on the Hydrocarbon Technology
at the Manpower Training Department of the Don Bosco Technical Institute
in Makati City.
The participants to the seminar-workshop were introduced
to the use of hydrocarbons, like propane and iso-butane, as refrigerants
or working fluids in refrigeration and air conditioning systems.
Ozone layer depletion and global warming (and the concomitant climate
change) were also discussed, and how the hydrocarbon technology
can help solve these two global environmental problems. In the workshop
sessions, a car air conditioner, a two-door refrigerator, and several
window-type air conditioners were retro-filled with hydrocarbons.
The participants were pleased to note that after the conversions,
the systems used less energy to operate. The seminar-workshop is
part of the Hydrocarbon Technology promotion activities of Swisscontact
Philippines.
